国会議員が国連改革に関するグローバルガバナンス推進委員会の意見交換会に参加した。(24/09/2019)

The second meeting of the Global Governance Commission Sub-Committee on UN Reform chaired by Professor Takahiro SHINYO was joined by three members of the Diet of Japan. They were Mr. Masaharu NAKAWAGA, former Minister of Education, Mr. Masahiko SHIBAYAMA, former Special Assistant to Prime Minister Shinzo ABE on UN peace operations and former Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and Mr. Akira SATO, Member of the House of Representatives and former Senior Vice Minister of Defense. The meeting was also participated by scholars and experts including Professor Yasuhiro UEKI of Sophia University who was a United Nations Spokesman and an international expert on UN reform matters, Dr, Vesselin POPOVSKI, Professor and Vice Dean, Jindal Global Law School, O.P. On May 27, the UN Special Envoy for Myanmar, Christine Bergner, met with Seishiro ETO, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for World Federation, Ichiro AISAWA, Chairman of the Parliamentary Japan-Myanmar Friendship Federation, and Masaharu NAKAGAWA, Chair of the Parliamentary Federation in Support of Democratization of Myanmar at the First Building for the House of Representatives in Nagata-cho, Tokyo.

Monday September 6th, 2021

UN Special Envoy for Myanmar, Christine Bergner, met on May 26, 2021, with former UN Special Representatives and Japanese Ambassadors at the Kyoto International Peacebuilding Center in Tokyo. During her stay in Tokyo, the UN Special Envoy also met with Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi and Senior Political Leaders ETO Seishiro, AISAWA Ichiro and NAKAGAWA Msaharu. (26/05/2021)

In his keynote address to the conference of Japanese parliamentary members` peace forum in Tokyo, David Malone, Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, drew a parallel between the UN emerging after World War II as a replacement of the League of Nations, and Japan replacing the failed leadership of the country in the same time period. Malone concluded that the Tokyo parliamentary peace forum can be useful in advancing the debate on actions that needed to be taken to address global crises and challenges.

Mr. Fabrizio Hochschild, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations acknowledged the contributions Japan has made to the UN in the aftermath of World War II, signalling a fresh start for its foreign policy and international image, under the slogan of “peace-loving nation”.

On the occasion of the international conference held at the Diet Members` Building in Tokyo commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Seishiro ETO, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of the Diet of Japan emphasized the importance of ascertaining the role of the United Nations and Japan in dealing with the global issues such as COVID-19, global warming, international peace and security, and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
